There are usually about ten Buddhist monks living at the Letzehof on a permanent basis. Some of the monks are students, others qualified masters who give teachings. Often young monks from Tibet or Mongolia are present. These monks have received a scholarship from the monastery and complete their traditional education within four to five years. Visiting hours The meditation hall can be visited any time during the day. The book shop is open from 15:00 till 17:00. Meals are served at noon and in the evening at 7:00 pm. If you would like to join us for a meal, please inform the cook! (phone: +43 720 510880) Meditation and Prayers In the mornings and evenings the monks gather to pray. (Daily at 8:30 am and 6:00 pm, except Sundays and Mondays.) Every two weeks, on the tenth and twenty-fifth day of the Tibetan calendar, all the monks as well as lay students gather for extensive prayers and offerings (Tsok-offering). Visitors are most welcome. Teachings Several public seminars are given throughout the year. Buddhist philosophy and meditation are taught by the most outstanding Lamas of our time. On the first and second Wednesday of each month, evening lectures on meditation are held for the general public. Guided tours Many schools, organisations and private groups come to visit the monastery each year. You are also most welcome to pass by, stay in the tempel for quiet meditation or ask a monk for information on Buddhism in general or specific topics - free of charge, of course. The languages available for such discussions may depend on the persons present, but usually German, English, French, Tibetan, Czech, and Russian are possible. Staying at the monastery Several guest rooms are available for anyone, who wishes to experience monastery life, do a retreat or just wants to spend some days in the calm atmosphere and beautiful surrounding of the monastery. |
